History/Overview: Establishment of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University was essentially an upgradation of the Institute of Postgraduate Medicine and Research (IPGMR), popularly known as PG. IPGMR was established in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) by the then government of Pakistan in December 1965 as a government-controlled graduate of the Institute for medical research and studies. Shahbag hotel is gone, once the largest hotel in Dhaka. The neighborhood is named Shahbag the name of that hotel. From 2010, many schools of medicine and public health institutions in common, uniting BSMMU. For example BIRDEM, BIHS, DMC, NICVD, start the engine and many others. Various positions in the major leagues of many foreigners, especially from Nepal and Bhutan.
